Colonia Tovar

Cafe Muhstall is located at the heart of the town, across Saint Martin’s Church. It’s the best representation of the style of architecture.
In 1843, 390 Germans sailed to Venezuela to establish an agricultural colony. Combining their common practices with Venezuelan culture, Colonia Tovar was created. You’ll find people who speak German and Spanish, eat bratwurst and arepas, and perform Joropo dance to Polka music. All in the comfort of authentic German architecture.
For my final MA project, I want to create a 3D model of Cafe Muhstall. This will help me develop my realistic modeling and texturing skills. It will show my appreciation for places that are rich with history and culture. I will create seven shots showcasing the environment.
My original plan was to model everything in the foreground using Autodesk Maya, texture assets using Adobe Substance Painter, render with Arnold, and do CG integration for the background using Nuke. My professors have advised me to look into other forms of modeling, like using Unreal, organic modeling in ZBrush, and photogrammetry. Another possibility could be incorporating procedural modeling.
